SIPOA Scholars
2019 marked the inauguration of the SIPOA Scholars Program, whereby the SIPOA Board established a fund at the College of Coastal Georgia to provide scholarships for Sea Island Company non-management employees or their immediate families. Recipients are selected by the College each year based upon a number of factors, including academic standing, leadership, community involvement, character and need. The Scholars are also matched by SIPOA with mentors from among its membership who provide them with support and advice.
These scholarships have had a major impact on the lives of the recipients and their families. The SIPOA Board believes that this program aligns with the mission of SIPOA by supporting Sea Island employees as well as our local college, ultimately benefiting our entire community. It is certainly our hope that the Scholars will become future leaders in this community following their graduation.
SIPOA is currently providing funding for scholarships of $1500 per Scholar each year. Our four current Scholars, along with their personal statements, are listed below. And we are pleased to announce that three Scholars from our inaugural class are now college graduates and have begun their careers, one as an elementary school teacher in Glynn County, one in the finance department at FLETC, and one with the Sea Island Company.
Be A Mentor
The SIPOA Scholars Program matches each Scholar with a mentor who meets with the Scholar on a regular basis. The mentors encourage the Scholar’s academic progress, help in the development of career goals, and assist the Scholar in developing self-confidence and inter-personal skills. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Bob Guido.
