Garbage and recycling collections are handled by Republic Services. Garbage (green can) is picked up every week on either Wednesday or Friday, depending on location. Recycling is picked up every other week on the same day as the trash. SIPOA strongly recommends that all homeowners subscribe to the “back door service” option. For a moderate annual fee ($220.81 in 2021), Republic Services will collect and return your green garbage can to your screened garbage area, eliminating the need to pull the can out to the street. Note that back-door service is only available for the green garbage can–it is not available for the blue recycling can which must be pulled out to the curb.  Call Republic Services 912-267-6400 to set up back door service.

Recycling (blue) cans must be placed on the curb before collection. Please do not leave these cans out for extended periods. Recycling cans (and green garbage cans for those who do not elect the back door option) may be placed on the curb after 7PM the night before and by 7AM the day of collection, and should be removed the same day the garbage and recycling are collected.

Beginning in 2022, there will be an annual fee of $81.00 for recycling curbside pick-up, and the fee will be billed quarterly.  Homeowners may opt out of the recycling pick-up (and avoid the 81.00 fee), but this decision must be submitted to Glynn county by December 1 of the preceding year.  Homeowners can opt out by calling Glynn County at 912-554-7111 or by submitting the Cancel Curbside Recycling Service form on the Glynn County website.

In general, trash is collected on Wednesdays for all cottages on the north side (marsh side) of Sea Island Dr between the Cloister and Ocean Forest, and on Fridays for all other cottages and residences, including Ocean Forest.  See the link below for the Glynn County trash collection map, which divides Sea Island into “pink” (Friday pick-up) and “yellow” (Wednesday pick-up) zones:
