The first nest on the entire Georgia coast in 2022 was laid on Sea Island on May 3! From May 1-October 30, Loggerhead turtles will be nesting on the Sea Island beach and hatchlings will be making their trip to the ocean.
Owners of ocean-front residences should make sure to turn off exterior lights at night, since bright lights confuse the turtles and can disrupt nesting. Please keep your distance from nesting turtles as well as from nests marked by yellow stakes, and keep your dogs leashed and away from the nests. Also, make sure to remove all personal items, including tents, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc., from the beach each evening so that they don’t block the turtles’ paths. If you have renters or guests, please ask them to follow these rules as well.
Should you wish to learn more about the turtles, sponsor a nest, or take a Sea Turtle Dawn Patrol or Night Walk, please contact the Sea Island Nature Center at 912-634-4499. For more information about Sea Turtles on Sea Island and the Sea Island Adopt-A-Nest program, click on “read more” below.
Glynn County is changing its recycling policies starting January 1, 2022. Up to now, alternate week curbside recycling pick-up has been included with garbage collection. We pay for these services through our tax assessment. In 2022, Glynn County will begin charging $81.00 annually for recycling pick-up, and the first quarterly charge will be billed in December 2021. However, anyone who chooses to opt out of recycling pick-up may do so if they act before December 1. To opt out and avoid the $81.00 fee, submit the Cancel Curbside form which is available on the Glynn County website or call 912-554-7111.
For more information about Glynn Garbage and Recycling Services as well as links to the garbage and recycling pick-up schedules, refer to the Garbage and Recycling section in the drop down menu of Sea Island Info on this website.
The 2021 Annual Meeting will again be held virtually, due to continued concerns about Covid and the safety of all our members. Please read the email from the President, which is linked in the Announcements below. The email explains our decision process and also provides important information about the proposed slate of new and returning Board members, upon which you are being asked to vote.
The entire Annual Meeting will be pre-recorded and will be available on the website after 4:30P on November 8. Since the meeting will not be streamed live, you can access the meeting video at your convenience.
Please vote now for the new and returning Board members by emailing info@sipoa.net and typing “FOR” or “AGAINST”.
Georgia Power performed maintenance work along the Drive in early June. While the bulk of the wok has been completed, there are still some detours and rough areas on the sidewalk where they had to remove sections of the sidewalk in order to access utilities. Please use caution when biking or walking on the sidewalk.
